Easy Pancake Recipes for Babies & Toddlers

Mornings with babies and toddlers can be unpredictable. Some days they eat everything, and other days they refuse even their favorites. But one food that almost always works in our home? Pancakes. Pancakes are often seen as a fun breakfast treat, but with the right ingredients, they can be so much more — especially for toddlers. Nutritious pancakes are a gentle, familiar way to introduce whole grains, fruits, and protein into your child’s diet without battles at the table. Soft, easy to hold, and endlessly customizable, pancakes fit perfectly into toddler meals, whether it’s breakfast, snack time, or even a quick dinner. When made without added sugar and packed with wholesome ingredients, pancakes become a nourishing option that supports growing bodies while still feeling like a comfort food that toddlers love.

After plenty of trial and error, I started making soft, naturally sweet pancakes that are easy for little mouths to chew and gentle on tiny tummies. These pancake recipes are perfect for babies (8+ months) and toddlers, with no added sugar and simple ingredients you probably already have at home. Whether you’re starting baby-led weaning or feeding a picky toddler, these pancakes are a lifesaver.

Pancakes have evolved far beyond the sugary breakfast treats of the past. In the past, pancakes were considered to be a sugary snack that most parents, would feel guilty about for feeding their babies and toddlers. Here’s why they work so well for little eaters:

  • Nutrients-Dense: Nutritious pancakes may include healthy ingredients like Whole grains (oats, whole-wheat flour), fruits (banana, apple, berries), protein (eggs, yogurt), and healthy fats (seeds, nut butters). This makes pancakes a balanced meal, not just a treat.
  • Perfect for Picky Eaters:You can gently hide nutrient-dense foods like pumpkin, carrots, sweet-potatoes, seeds, or iron-rich ingredients inside pancakes without overwhelming your toddler.You can also add topping when serving the pancakes to your toddler like yogurt, fresh berries, peanut butter that toddlers already love making meal time more exciting.

Easy pancake recipes for babies and toddlers

To make pancakes baby-friendly, they should be soft and fluffy with no added sugar or salt and avoid whole nuts which can cause choking hazards. Here are some easy pancake recipes:

    1. Banana Oat Pancakes (6+ Months)

        These are one of the easiest and most loved baby pancakes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 egg 
  • ½ cup oat flour (or blended oats)
  •  A little drizzle of coconut oil or butter for the pan

Instructions:

  1. Mash the banana with a folk until smooth
  2. In a different bowl, crack the egg and whisk it. Then add it to your oat flour and whisk the whole mixture together  until you have smooth batter. 
  3. Add the mashed banana to the mixture and whisk a little. 
  4.  Heat a drizzle of coconut oil or butter in a saucepan and once is hot, add a little batter in the middle of the pan. cook on low heat and Flip gently and cook it on the other side until soft

2. Yogurt Pancakes for Toddlers (12+ Months)

These pancakes are fluffy and filling.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt 
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • A drizzle of coconut or avocado oil for cooking 

Instructions:

  1. Sift the whole wheat flour into a large bowl with the baking powder and make a well in the middle (you may need to press some of the whole wheat grains through the sieve with a spoon).
  2. In a different bowl, crack the egg and whisk it together with yogurt. Then add it to your flour and whisk the whole mixture together until you have smooth batter. 
  3.  Heat a drizzle of coconut oil or avocado oil in a saucepan and once is hot, add a little batter in the middle of the pan. Cook on low heat and flip gently and cook it on the other side until soft

💡 Serve with fruit or add honey on top to sweet it (avoid honey for babies below 1 year)

3. Spinach Pancakes (Hidden Veggies!)

Perfect for picky eaters who avoid greens.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup self-raising flour
  • A small handful of spinach
  • olive oil for cooking 

Instructions:

  1. Sift the flour into a large bowl and make a well in the middle. 
  2. Wash the spinach and blend it with water.
  3. In a different bowl, crack the egg and whisk. add it to your flour and mix
  4. add the blended spinach slowly, little by little until you have smooth batter. 
  5. Heat a drizzle of coconut oil or avocado oil in a saucepan and once is a little hot, add a little batter in the middle of the pan. Cook on low heat and flip gently and cook it on the other side until soft.

🥬 They may look green—but toddlers usually don’t mind!

Tips for making pancakes baby & toddler friendly

    To make pancakes soft and well cooked:

  • Use low heat
  • Avoid overcooking
  • Smaller pancakes are easier to manage

    For Picky Eaters:

  • Cut pancakes into fun shapes
  • Serve with a dip (yogurt or fruits in season)
